This proposal outlines an ambitious research project seeking to investigate the link between employment opportunities for women in sub-Saharan Africa and fertility choices in the region, with a case study of the recent expansion of the cut-flowers exports industry in Kenya. This work is part of a broader research agenda studying the three-way link between the region’s structural transformation process, demographic transition, and gender inequalities in the labour market by the principal investigators. This agenda relates to two of the UN Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 8 — Decent Work and Economic Growth — and SDG 5 — Gender Equality.
