This project explores the determinants of economic inequality, focusing on the interplay between genetics, parental environment, and early childhood policies. Using unique Icelandic data, we link administrative records on economic outcomes with genetic markers and family relations to identify causal effects of genetic traits through sibling comparisons. In parallel, we examine the introduction of Sweden’s universal childcare policy to assess its long-term impact on human capital and economic outcomes. By integrating genetic and policy-based analyses, we provide new insights into the origins of inequality and the role of public interventions.
